History

The Philips University has a proud history of education and advancement of knowledge, with social impact for more than forty years.

Its operating license Philips University granted by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus, during its meeting on October 15, 2019 (decision no. 88.356). Prior to this licence, Philips College, which is still in operation, operated successfully for more than four decades as an institution of Higher Education, registered with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus.

In 2021, the Interuniversity Organization for the Recognition of Academic Titles and Information (D.O.A.T.A.P.) of Greece recognized Philips University as Credits to Greek Universities. 

Therefore, Philips University as a university, and the degrees it awards (Bachelors, Masters and Doctorates) receive the same recognition in Greece as the Greek Universities of the country.

The History of Philips University

1978

Foundation of Philips College with the participation of Gerry Fowler (former Minister of Education of the United Kingdom), Yiannis Koutsakos (former President of the Council of the University of Cyprus), Takis Evdokas (psychiatrist) and Philippou Constantinos (Accountant Auditor) and other elites, with the aim of offering quality education

1981

Recognition of the first study programs. The first graduates are admitted to universities in the UK and USA to continue their studies for postgraduate studies. 

1996

Recognition of the first study programs. The first graduates are admitted to universities in the UK and USA to continue their studies for postgraduate studies. 

2000

Certification of selected study programs of Philips College by the Cyprus National Accreditation Agency (SEKAP).

2011

Philips College joins the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

2019

Initial operating license of the University and registration in the University Register and in the Council of the Higher Education Quality Assurance and Certification Agency (DI.PA.E).

2021

The Interuniversity Organization for the Recognition of Academic Titles and Information (D.O.A.T.A.P.) of Greece by decision of its Board of Directors on December 3, 2021, recognizes Philips University and includes it in the National Register of Recognized Institutions of Higher Education foreigner as co-payers to Greek university institutions.
